Job summary

Formula 1 is seeking a Database Administrator to join the IT Systems team at our Biggin Hill site. You will install, configure, secure and maintain our database platforms, optimise performance, and support incident resolution and disaster recovery.

Ideal candidates have scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, T-SQL) and a proactive, collaborative approach to work with global teams across time zones while ensuring GDPR and ISO standards compliance.

  • Experience in working with global teams and events is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure and maintain database platforms (MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Monitor performance, optimise queries and ensure security and compliance.
  • Restore backups, plan DR procedures and manage incidents.

Reporting into our IT Systems Manager, this role will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, performance, and availability of the organisation's database systems.Main Duties and Responsibilities:Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or cloud database servicesMonitor database performance and optimise queries, indexes, and system configurationsImplement and manage database security, user access controls, and auditing processesDevelop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery proceduresTroubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and system failuresSupport Systems Applications and Systems Infrastructure teams with database design and optimisationCreating and maintaining documents for IT systems and assist building on the documentation process within the departmentDrive innovation in IT, reviewing current technology offerings and identifying improvements within department responsibilitiesManage projects through lifecycle, ensuring deadlines are met and stakeholders engaged throughoutImplementing new solutions and providing training to other technology teams including full documentation and walkthroughsEnsure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR, ISO 27001, SOX and organisational security policiesRespond in a flexible and adaptive to supporting business requirements, when ad hoc requests are madeTroubleshooting and resolving database issues from a helpdesk and ensuring these are managed though our incident management processesImplementing security measures, performing security tests and ensure system integrity to maintain a secure IT operating environment for the businessProduce root cause analysis reports in case of failures and issues and work alongside problem management processesBe available to work on IT systems outside of usual ‘Business Hours’, both planned and unplannedTravel when required to Formula 1’s business sites and partners premisesKeep abreast of developments in the IT Industry and consider proactively how these may be incorporated into the IT Systems InfrastructureWhat Are We Looking For?Personal QualitiesIn this role it is essential that you are:Proficient communication skills with the ability to convey ideas clearly and confidentlyExperienced documentation and organisational skillsHighly motivated and well-structured in managing tasksPositive, adaptable, and flexible when faced with challengesProactive, with a solution-oriented mindsetExperiencePrior to the role it would be essential that you have :Proven experience in database administrationExperience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, T-SQL)Good customer service, communication and team working skillsSome desirable experience that you may bring to the role:Microsoft PowerBI ReportingMicrosoft FabricMicrosoft Azure Data FactoryExperience working in a global organisation across different time zonesExperience working within the sports / entertainments industries and working with major events.QualificationsYou will need to have current UK driving license in this role.
