Job summary

Stealth iT Consulting is seeking a Database Administrator with PostgreSQL and Oracle exposure to manage and optimise a PostgreSQL data store across cloud and on‑prem environments. The role requires owning data models, implementing security controls and collaborating with development teams.

The position offers hybrid working with travel to client sites in England, and requires candidates to have SC clearance or DV clearance as a target.

Qualifications

• Experience as PostgreSQL DBA across multiple environments.
• Strong data modelling and schema design skills.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL extensions (PostGIS, pgvector, AGE).
• Experience with Oracle or MSSQL is a plus.
• Ability to tune performance and manage backups.
• Security controls and RBAC/ROW level security familiarity.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with developers.

Responsibilities

• Own the PostgreSQL database cluster across cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Monitor and tune PostgreSQL database performance.
• Handle migration of data structures across database instances, including to offline environments.
• Own the data models and manage the lifecycle of data within PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with data pipeline engineers & data scientists to ingest diverse data sources.
• Manage security controls across environments, including roles, permissions and RLS.
• Coordinate with infrastructure to configure installation and patching of databases.

Salary: Base salary up to £60,000 p/a + Car Allowance

Location: England wide - Hybrid working/client site travel in Andover & Corsham

All candidates must have existing SC or DV Clearance

A global leader in digital transformation is looking for a Database Administrator with PostgreSQL & Oracle exposure to join their team on a permanent basis.

We are looking for a PostgreSQL database administrator with strong data modelling skills within a role that includes managing a Postgres application data store across environments, whilst working closely with the rest of the development team to define the data model for new data feeds. You will be responsible for the maintenance and performance of the database and have ownership of the core data structures used within the application.

Responsibilities:

• Taking responsibility for the application PostgreSQL database cluster across multiple environments across cloud & on premises
• Monitoring and tuning to optimise PostgreSQL database performance
• Handling migration of data structures across database instances, including to offline environments
• Owning the data models and managing the lifecycle of data sitting within the Postgres database
• Working closely with data pipeline engineers & data scientists to ingest a wide range of data sources
• Managing security controls across environments, including defining roles & permissions, as well as RLS controls for the data
• Working directly with the infrastructure team to configure the installation and manage patching of the databases across all environments

Skills we can’t do without:

• Postgresql dba, core development / maintenance and performance optimisation (sharding, partitions).
• Experience with clustering, and extensions such as pgvector PostGIS, and AGE very useful.
• Additional skills in Oracle or MSSQL would also be required
• Performance optimisation – index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation, data partitioning
• Backup and recovery – Capable of defining backup strategies based on environment constraints
• Clustering – Experience with managing database clusters, including handling failover strategies
• Experience with data modelling: designing, creating & managing schemas, tables, and views to support the data models
• Understanding best practices for storing JSON objects within PostgreSQL
• Clear communication & ability to work collaboratively with developers to define & implement data model requirements

SC cleared as a minimum, DV as a target, you must have lived and worked in the UK continuously for the past 5-7 years.
