Data & GIS Technician
Responsibilities
  • To identify, collate, visualise and share data required to support the delivery and implementation of wastewater sewer and river water quality models.
  • Support the team in identifying improvements to the modelling policies and processes.
  • Support model development and scoping exercises to define investigation needs.
  • Collate and analyse data and be responsible for making it available in a GIS format.
  • Analysis of complex datasets to identify trends and communicate outcomes both internally and externally.
  • Supply/facilitate the supply of the base data required from Yorkshire Water to enable specialist modelling consultants to carry out environmental modelling work.
  • Provide support to specialist modelling consultants regarding understanding and use of base data provided from Yorkshire Water or Yorkshire Water systems.
  • Check the data returned by the monitoring contractor and ensure it is fit for purpose; work with the contractor to rectify any issues that arise during the monitoring programme.
  • Contribute towards technical innovation.
Qualifications
  • Educated to A Level or Technical Level.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience of report and presentation writing and the ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Self-driven with an ability to identify and source data sets from both internal and external stakeholders to support analysis and decision making.
  • Strong data manipulation and analytical skills, with an eye for detail.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems including Excel.
  • Owns and has a positive attitude to solving problems.
  • Rigorous attention to detail to ensure 'right first time' performance.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and manage own workload to support the Modelling and Data and Environmental Modelling teams.

Location and Working Hours

West Yorkshire / Hybrid Working (1–2 days in the office a week – Bradford). Relocating to Leeds Summer 2026. Permanent role for 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Flexible working patterns and job share options available.
