Job description

A Stripe Partners internship offers a unique opportunity to experience the world of consulting and to gain insight into what it takes to create impact within large organisations.

During this internship, you will contribute to insight-driven work with the potential to change how millions of people understand and interact with technology. As a Data Science intern you can expect to be fully immersed in project work and SP culture.

This internship is a paid, full-time stint that runs for 4-months. You must have the right to work in the UK. Although we operate a hybrid model from our London Bridge office, we would like interns to be able to access the office regularly.

About Stripe Partners

We combine social and data science to help technology-led businesses invent better futures by creating products, services and business models that drive sustainable growth.

We’re a growing organisation with an office in London and teammates in Europe, Hong Kong and Thailand. Our team is made up of 40+ researchers and strategists with diverse backgrounds across anthropology, business consultancy, data science, digital product development, and design. We specialise in the interactions between people and technology to give companies a foundational understanding of the world, their customers and their organisations.

Our clients include some of the world’s most exciting businesses, such as Google, Meta, Spotify, Apple and Novo Nordisk.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for bright, organised and enthusiastic individuals excited to apply data science or other quantitative skills to business challenges, on multi-country research projects.

You will become part of teams working on live client engagements, and gain first-hand experience, training and regular feedback from a mentor. This is a junior position with the opportunity to expand and grow your data science, research and consulting skills.

About you
  • A data science or equivalent quantitative academic background
  • Good knowledge of and capability in at least one of: applying foundational NLP methods (topic modelling, NER, sentiment analysis, PoS tagging, contextual embeddings, transformer-based models), working with big data, or designing and running surveys
  • Good coding skills: well-versed in R or Python (knowledge of cloud service, such as AWS and git version control is a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of statistical modelling such as regressions; knowledge of machine learning is a bonus
  • Exceptional analytical skills. A clear thinker you will be able to contribute meaningfully to projects that end up delivering great results to our blue-chip client base
  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail: you care about the quality of your work
  • Eager to learn new methods, take on unfamiliar tasks and comfortable taking feedback constructively
  • Strong time management skills to deliver results in tight deadlines
  • A clear communicator, orally and on paper
  • Comfortable with presentation software like Google Slides, and data visualisation methods – we aim to do high-quality, rigorous work and then present this in ways that make insights compelling
What you’ll do

You’ll be an integral member of a project team, and your tasks will include:

  • Contributing to designing studies, figuring out what sort of data driven methods to apply to answer client questions
  • Drafting and coding up research surveys, or analysing other data sources e.g. digital behavioural tracking data, or large amounts of unstructured text information
  • Contributing to data analysis in Python or R and implementing analysis models to find patterns and insights
  • Visualising and presenting results and supporting writing sections of reports
  • Contributing to internal research directions eg. around our AI development paths
  • Participating in workshops and client meetings
  • Support managing calendar, project plan, team timetables

The application deadline is rolling with the internship starting ideally in mid-late August. This role will be contracted, requiring the appointed candidate to be able to invoice.

Applicants who are shortlisted can expect an initial video call. Successful candidates will proceed to the second and final stage, which involves a face-to-face meeting at our London office.

This is a time-bound opportunity with no guarantee of a full time role at the end of the internship. However, high performing interns have in the past been offered permanent roles if there are positions available.

We strongly encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply. The more diverse perspectives on our team, the more we can help our clients understand people’s worlds.

We’ll assess applications on a rolling weekly basis. We reply to everyone who applies.

Please be aware that you will need the right to live / work in the UK to be considered for this role. Unfortunately, Stripe Partners is not able to sponsor visas or work permits.

How much does this internship pay

Interns are paid monthly, the amount will be confirmed during initial interviews. You will receive 25 days pro rata of annual leave (2.33 days a month) + bank holidays.
