Job summary

Govia Thameslink Railway is seeking a Data Scientist to turn complex data into actionable insights. You will help establish the in-house ML capability, build predictive models, and drive value across commercial, operational and safety functions.

The role sits in the Central Data & AI function and requires strong Python/SQL skills, experience with enterprise datasets, and cloud-based analytics platforms. Hybrid working is available across Monument Place and other sites.

Qualifications

• Degree in data science, computer science or mathematics.
• Experience with end-to-end data science projects.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication.

Responsibilities

• Developing predictive and prescriptive models using curated DataHub datasets.
• Applying statistical and machine learning techniques to identify trends, risks and future outcomes.
• Working with stakeholders to frame business challenges, define hypotheses and design effective interventions.
• Translating complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Explaining model assumptions, limitations and risks to support informed decision making.
• Collaborating with Data Engineers to develop data models that support analytical and machine learning use cases.
• Monitoring, evaluating and improving model performance as business conditions evolve.
• Contributing to the development of data science standards, governance and best practice across GTR.
• Supporting the responsible adoption of AI and advanced analytics within an enterprise environment.
