Job description

SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. Our Reliability Performance team has a fantastic opportunity for a Data Scientist to join them in Manchester for a 12 month fixed term period.

The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Our role

The Data Scientist plays a critical role within the Reliability Performance Team by providing insight-driven analysis that supports improved network performance, cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, and customer outcomes. The role focuses on maximising the value of existing assets, reducing customer interruptions, ensuring data integrity in fault reporting systems, and driving investment in supply automation and supply restoration strategies through collaborative cross-departmental engagement.

What we're looking for
  • HNC level qualification in Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline;
  • Strong data analysis skills using SQL, Power BI, Excel, and/or Python/R;
  • Understanding of electricity distribution networks, asset reliability, and fault performance metrics;
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as Ofgem reporting and NaFIRs;
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration abilities;
  • Ability to present complex data in an actionable and engaging format.
