Job description

Hello. We’re Teya.

Teya was founded on a simple belief: local businesses deserve better.

They are the cafés, restaurants, salons, shops and entrepreneurs that bring character to our high streets, create jobs and keep communities moving. Yet for too long, financial services has made life harder for them - with clunky tools, poor support and complexity that gets in the way of running a business.

Teya exists to change that.

We’re building a financial platform for local businesses across Europe - one built around simple tools, thoughtful design and real human support. Our Members rely on us to help them run their business with confidence, and that responsibility shapes the way we work.

We move fast. We care about quality. We stay close to the detail. And we believe great performance and genuine hospitality should go hand in hand.

If you want to build meaningful products, solve real problems and make a genuine difference for local businesses, we’d love to hear from you

Your Mission

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to work across the business at Teya, using data and models to improve business outcomes. This is a broad role: you can expect to get involved in solving business problems across many domains, applying your data science toolkit wherever it can create the most value – whether that’s understanding merchant churn, predicting lead conversion, forecasting transaction volumes, estimating price elasticity, or modelling credit risk.

You will work on modelling initiatives across the full model lifecycle, from data exploration and feature development through to model deployment and performance monitoring. You will use your strong quantitative background to ensure models are developed in a statistically sound way. Collaborating with senior data scientists and stakeholders across Product, Commercial teams, Finance, Engineering and Data Engineering, you will ensure models are well‑understood and deliver real business value.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who has hands‑on predictive modelling experience and wants to broaden their expertise across a wide range of business domains within a fast‑growing fintech.

Responsibilities
  • Problem solving: Support the translation of business problems into analytical and modelling tasks, contributing ideas and exploring alternative approaches.
  • Model development: Develop and enhance predictive models across domains such as churn, lead conversion and volume forecasting, under guidance from senior team members.
  • Model deployment: Collaborate with Data Engineering and Engineering to assist the deployment of models onto the ML Platform and integration into production systems.
  • Model monitoring: Help monitor model performance, investigate performance changes or drift, and contribute to model improvements over time.
  • Data exploration: Explore internal and external data sources, engineer features, and assess their predictive value across a range of modelling problems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Data Engineering and commercial teams to ensure modelling work supports operational and commercial goals.
Requirements
  • Hands‑on experience of predictive modelling applied to real commercial problems, ideally in a fintech / scale‑up etc.
  • Degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong applied quantitative skills, including use of machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working with real‑world datasets
  • Ability to explain analytical work clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Curious, pragmatic, and commercially minded, with a desire to understand how models drive business outcomes
The Perks
  • We trust you, so we offer flexible working hours, as long as it suits both you and your team.
  • Physical and mental health support through our partnership with GymPass, giving free access to over 1,500 gyms in the UK, 1-1 therapy, meditation sessions, and digital fitness and nutrition apps.
  • Our company offers extended and improved maternity and paternity leave choices, giving employees more flexibility and support.
  • Cycle‑to‑Work Scheme.
  • Health and Life Insurance.
  • Pension Scheme.
  • 25 days of Annual Leave (plus Bank Holidays).
  • Office snacks every day.
  • Friendly, comfortable, and informal office environment in Central Londo
