Job summary

Northern LGPS in the United Kingdom is building a new investment reporting and data governance function to serve partner funds, the Board and regulators. The role reports to the Head of Investment Operations and leads a small team, shaping standards and governance across investment data and reporting practices.

You will own quarterly reporting packs, data ownership, and governance across multiple legacy fund practices, with a hybrid working model and offices in Bradford, Manchester or Liverpool.

Build and lead the investment data and reporting capability that will provide Northern LGPS’s partner funds, Board and regulators with trusted, well-governed information.

Northern LGPS is entering an important period of development, creating an FCA authorised investment management company and establishing the leadership, governance and operating capabilities required for the future.

As Manager - Data & Reporting, you’ll have the opportunity to establish a new investment reporting and data governance function from a standing start. You’ll own the reporting relied upon by Northern’s partner funds, Board and regulators, while overseeing the governance of the investment data that underpins it.

This role brings together investment reporting, performance measurement oversight and data governance. You’ll establish reporting disciplines, designate trusted sources across three legacy partner fund practices and create greater consistency in how investment data is defined, controlled and used. Working across Investment Operations, Investment Risk, Compliance and Technology, you’ll help build a reporting capability that supports effective oversight and decision-making as Northern develops its future operating model.

Northern LGPS is a c£70bn pooled investment partnership for the Local Government Pension Scheme, bringing together the investments of Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund and West Yorkshire Pension Fund.

The main responsibilities of this role

Reporting to the Head of Investment Operations, you’ll lead investment reporting and data governance, coordinating activity across functions while maintaining clear ownership of data within each contributing team.

You will:

• Own production of the quarterly partner fund reporting pack, shareholder and disclosure reporting support, and responses to ad hoc partner fund data requests.
• Establish and manage the reporting calendar, cut-offs and dependencies across contributing functions, alongside reporting requirements and change management.
• Ensure reports issued externally are subject to appropriate four-eyes review and documented sign-off.
• Own monthly Board and committee management information and consolidate operational management information across relevant functions.
• Oversee externally produced investment performance measurement and attribution, validating and signing off provider output before release and dissemination to partner funds.
• Maintain a clear boundary with Investment Risk for independent performance validation and commentary.
• Establish and maintain Northern’s investment data catalogue, covering definitions, owners, sources and lineage, while coordinating data governance across operating functions.
• Designate and maintain golden sources, resolve conflicts between legacy systems and partner fund practices, and document the source of record for positions, cash, valuations and performance.
• Monitor function-level data ownership and quality obligations and provide clear reporting on data governance to relevant governance forums.
• Own security, entity, counterparty, benchmark, classification and private markets static data masters, alongside monitoring market data feeds and escalating failures.
• Establish data quality rules and thresholds, overseeing daily exception monitoring, investigation, resolution tracking and escalation.
• Own the reporting inventory, version control and retention arrangements.
• Take functional ownership of the reporting platform, working closely with the IT Investment Applications Lead.
• Maintain effective procedures and controls across the function and jointly provide the Regulatory Operations and Data return to the Operating Committee with the Head of Compliance.
• Build the Data & Reporting function from a standing start, working with the Head of Investment Operations to establish priorities for the first reporting cycle and subsequent development.
• Lead and develop the team as the function takes shape, with a target structure of two to three direct reports.

What we're looking for

You’ll bring a strong combination of institutional investment reporting and investment data expertise, together with the ability to establish clear standards and governance across a developing operating environment.

You’ll have:

• Demonstrable experience producing institutional or client investment reporting, including periodic reporting packs for an external audience.
• Experience overseeing an outsourced performance measurement or reporting provider, including validating provider output.
• Working knowledge of investment data, including security and entity masters, benchmarks and classification data.
• An understanding of the distinction between the investment book of record and accounting book of record.
• Experience of data governance disciplines, including data catalogues, golden source designation, data lineage and data quality rules and thresholds.

Experience of establishing or materially improving a reporting function is strongly preferred.

You’ll also need to work effectively across organisational boundaries, coordinating multiple contributors while maintaining clarity over data ownership, reporting requirements and sources of record.

37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
