Job description
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and line manage the activities of staff in the Data Quality Team on a day-to-day basis, including recruitment, workload allocation, performance and sickness monitoring.
  • Conduct annual appraisals and quarterly reviews using the Organisation's performance appraisal to support and develop each team member.
  • Liaise with front line staff to ensure data quality issues are actioned promptly and effectively, escalating as necessary.
  • Attend appropriate meetings, both internal and external, relating to Data Quality.
  • Provide advice and expertise to assist in improving healthcare by contributing to the improvement of data entered onto the Trust's Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
  • Participate in divisional meetings and present the results of relevant reports and audits.
  • Maintain a suite of Data Quality procedures.
  • Participate in regular housekeeping of systems.
  • Assist and participate in migration projects and system updates as required.
  • Support improvements in the quality of information recorded on electronic patient systems.
  • Develop expertise on other clinical applications used in the Trust, where required.
  • Work closely with clinical services to improve the quality of data in the Trust systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to Trust staff, external agencies and patients for data quality purposes.
  • Work closely with other teams and departments to ensure data is interpreted correctly.
  • Provide demographic record support for all aspects of patient record management.
  • Provide support for end‑user queries.

Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education or equivalent experience/knowledge, ECDL or equivalent qualification/experience, understanding of data quality principles.
  • Knowledge of organisational quality and governance issues in the use of IT and clinical data, including Data Protection.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience with hospital information systems, keyboard and PC skills.
  • Ability to work without supervision and organise own workload to meet identified deadlines.
  • Negotiation/influencing skills – ability to manage and develop a team to ensure departmental objectives are met.
  • Assertive and calm under pressure.
  • Organisational skills – able to manage a busy workload, prioritise and have a good attention to detail.
  • Able to work as a team member and to work alone, using own initiative.
  • Delegation skills.
  • Ability to relate to people at all levels including senior staff and other health professionals.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo further training to support the needs of the department.
  • Analytical skills and decision making/problem solving – ability to respond to problems and identify solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to form positive relationships with staff at all staff levels within the organisation.

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full‑time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro‑ratio. For posts on Agenda for Change pay‑scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.

Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS)

The healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1‑3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.
