This Data Protection Manager role is based in Birmingham and reports to the General Counsel, it is responsible for:

  • To inform the business and employees who carry out processing of their obligations pursuant to UK GDPR/GDPR/DPA.
  • To monitor compliance with UK GDPR/GDPR/DPA and with the policies of the business in relation to the protection of personal data, including the assignment of responsibilities, awareness-raising and training of staff involved in processing operations, and the related audits.
  • To ensure that data protection impact assessments, legitimate interests' assessments and transfer impact assessments are being completed, to support the business in completing impact assessments, and to monitor performance in respect of obligations relating to impact assessments.
  • To cooperate with the ICO (where necessary).

To act as the contact point for the ICO on issues relating to processing, including prior consultation, and to consult, where appropriate, with regard to any other matter.

Maintaining the business's data processing registers and other legally required accountability documentation.

Maintaining, championing, and providing training on the suite of Privacy & Data Protection policies & guidance which apply across the business

Assisting the business to ensure compliance with obligations relating to Privacy by Design, Data Protection Impact Assessments, Legitimate Interests Assessments and Transfer Impact Assessments.

Investigating and managing responses to breaches/non-compliance with policy.

Liaison with the ICO where necessary.

Championing the importance of data privacy and protection principles.

Dealing with privacy queries, questions, and subject right requests.

Co-ordinating and completing annual updates/reviews of processing activities across the business.

Monitoring compliance with Group Data Protection, Data Retention, Privacy by Design, Subject Rights, and Information Security Policies.

Ensuring that privacy and data protection are key considerations in (i) the early stages of any activity, project or purchase involving the use of personal data, (ii) the ongoing processing of such data and (iii) the retention and deletion of such data.

Chairing the Privacy Board and providing updates on privacy-related matters such as ICO enforcement action and guidance.

Managing, advising, and providing training to Privacy Champions across the business.

The Successful Applicant

This Data Protection Manager role is based in Birmingham and reports to the General Counsel, it requires:

  • Experience of working in Data Protection role, compliance experience is useful
  • Working knowledge of GDPR and DPA 2018 (and other relevant privacy legislation, including PECR)
  • Some form of DPO certification preferred
  • Experience of working as part of, or closely with a Legal team
