Job summary

Publicis Groupe UK is seeking an experienced Data Privacy Lawyer to support its Global Data Privacy Office in London. The role requires strong legal and privacy judgment, with proactive, practical collaboration across cross-functional teams and external clients.

The successful candidate will advise on privacy risks and regulatory obligations, partner with commercial and employment teams, and contribute to privacy training and governance programs in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified UK solicitor with right to work in the UK.
• Privacy certifications (CIPP/E or CIPP/US) desirable.
• 5+ years of legal experience with privacy focus or combined with commercial law.
• Hybrid work model with a London office presence (3 days/wk).
• In-house experience in AdTech or technology/privacy domains is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Serve as data privacy advisor across UK businesses and agencies.
• Draft, review and negotiate data privacy provisions in complex contracts.
• Provide privacy guidance to commercial and employment legal teams.
• Keep updated on relevant privacy laws and regulations and disseminate to the business.
• Develop privacy training materials and conduct training sessions.
• Collaborate with Global Data Privacy Operations on governance materials.

Overview

Publicis is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, flexible Data Privacy Lawyer to assist our business in the UK. This is a full-time position in London. You will be a member of our Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) and report to a senior member of the GDPO. The role is broad and involves advising across our business on the various privacy risks, obligations and other issues related to privacy. We are looking for someone who has demonstrated excellent legal and privacy judgment alongside strategic thinking. We would also like someone who is diligent, proactive, practical and fun to work with.

Responsibilities

• Key point of contact for data privacy-related enquiries for some of our advertising, creative, technology, data and health agencies in the UK.
• Support internal teams, providing them with appropriate advice and guidance, with the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with diverse cross-functional teams.
• Provide support to members of the commercial and employment legal teams on privacy matters and serve as subject matter expert on all privacy issues impacting or relating to the business and employees across the Groupe.
• Collaborate with our Global Data Privacy Operations team to adapt data governance materials such as inventory templates, vendor due diligence questionnaires, proprietary system questionnaires, and privacy impact assessment questionnaires.
• Assist the commercial legal team in drafting, reviewing and negotiating data privacy provisions in complex commercial contracts.
• Maintain current knowledge of all relevant privacy legislation and regulations and distribute this knowledge across both the legal function and the wider business.
• Provide data protection and privacy advice relating to data partnerships and vendor relationships, and assist in drafting, reviewing and negotiating data privacy provisions in related contracts.
• Help develop data privacy training materials and conduct privacy training.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Qualified UK solicitor. Common law jurisdiction equivalent lawyers will also be considered.
• Privacy certification (such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US from IAPP or similar) is desirable.
• 5+ years of legal experience, ideally within privacy but commercial and privacy combined experience will also be considered.
• Flexible working with a minimum of three days a week in the London office.
• In-house legal experience is desirable, particularly AdTech or technology experience with knowledge of digital advertising, including providing digital advertising/media counseling and transactional support to digital media companies, publishers, social media marketing, or online platforms in the AdTech/data space (e.g. ad serving, programmatic, data management, measurement, and analytics).
• Direct experience applying UK and European privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially those relevant for media and advertising.
• Commercially minded with good communication and inter-personal skills to enable the individual to work with all levels of internal management and negotiate with external clients.
• Enthusiastic, energetic data protection and privacy subject matter expert, with good knowledge of the latest regulatory changes and the related impacts on the media and advertising industry.
• Able to work in fast-paced environment, provide advice under tight deadlines and competent in managing a varied workload independently.
• A good sense of humor.
