Job summary

Vanquis is evolving its data capability and seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead Lead Data Engineers and several squads delivering data products on the Snowflake platform. You will shape Data Vault 2.0 modelling, engineer standards and controls, and scale platform operations with a strong emphasis on governance, cost management and resilience.

Reporting to the Senior Data Engineering Manager, you’ll influence across Architecture, Governance, Risk and Security, while developing engineering

Qualifications

• Extensive data engineering experience, including leadership of engineers or senior contributors.
• Deep Snowflake experience at scale, including platform architecture, access controls, operations and cost governance.
• Strong Data Vault 2.0 knowledge, with modelling standards experience.
• Experience using Coalesce, dbt or comparable metadata-driven transformation platforms.
• Experience leading, developing and building engineering capability.
• Experience overseeing complex delivery across multiple teams and priorities.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate technical subjects clearly.
• Experience working with third-party partners or distributed teams.

We’ve invested significantly in modernising our technology landscape and strengthening our data capabilities. The opportunity now is to evolve, optimise and scale our Snowflake data platform, while building the engineering capability, standards and controls needed for what comes next.

As our Data Engineering Manager, you’ll lead and develop a team of Lead Data Engineers while overseeing multiple engineering squads delivering data products across Vanquis.

You’ll combine strong people leadership with deep technical expertise, helping shape our Snowflake platform, Data Vault 2.0 modelling approach and wider engineering standards. You’ll have visible influence across quality, cost, resilience, governance and the continued development of our Data Engineering capability

You’ll be accountable for the quality, cost, resilience and governance of data across your portfolio, helping ensure our platform remains controlled, efficient and capable of supporting changing organisational needs.

Reporting to the Senior Data Engineering Manager, you’ll work with Data Engineering leaders, Architecture, Data Governance, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, Security, Operations, Service teams and third-party delivery partners. You’ll also contribute to the Enterprise Design Forum and Architectural Community of Practice, giving you the opportunity to influence decisions beyond your immediate portfolio.

• Significant data engineering experience, including leadership of engineers or senior technical contributors
• Deep Snowflake experience at scale, including platform architecture, access controls, operations and cost governance
• Strong Data Vault 2.0 knowledge, with experience shaping, applying or owning modelling standards
• Experience using Coalesce, dbt or another metadata-driven transformation platform
• Experience leading, developing and building engineering capability
• Experience overseeing complex delivery across multiple teams, priorities and dependencies
• An understanding of engineering within a regulated, controlled or similarly complex environment
• The ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate technical subjects clearly
• Experience working with third-party partners or geographically distributed teams

You don’t need to match every point perfectly. We’re interested in the technical expertise, leadership experience and transferable knowledge you can bring, as well as your commitment to learning and developing others.

Useful, but not essential

• Experience within financial services or another regulated sector
• Experience of semantic modelling, analytics enablement or internal data marketplaces
• Experience managing onshore, offshore or third-party engineering teams
• A relevant degree, although equivalent practical technical experience is equally valued
