Job summary

PHMG is seeking a Head of Data Engineering in Manchester to lead and mature our data capability. You will own the core data platform, architecture and pipelines, guiding a growing Data Engineering team and ensuring scalable, reliable data solutions that align with business priorities.

As a senior leader, you will embed strong engineering practices, collaborate across IT and data teams, and shape the data strategy into actionable roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading, developing and managing Data Engineering teams.
• Strong track record designing and delivering enterprise data platforms and architectures.
• Thorough understanding of ETL/ELT practices and scalable data pipelines.
• Advanced SQL and Python programming capabilities.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift or BigQuery.
• Knowledge of modern engineering practices: source control, CI/CD, testing, code review, monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Data Engineering team and foster best practices.
• Own PHMG's core data platform, architecture, data warehouse and pipelines.
• Ensure data engineering delivery is well‑designed, prioritised and delivered to standards.
• Embed engineering practices across source control, CI/CD, testing and monitoring.
• Collaborate with the Data team to translate strategy into an engineering roadmap.
• Work with IT and other teams on architecture, integrations and platform decisions.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and efficiency of data capability.
