Job summary

Envitia is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Security & Intelligence Consulting team. You’ll design and build modern data platforms for Defence, Government and National Security, enabling faster, better-informed decisions from complex datasets.

You’ll collaborate with data scientists, software engineers and consultants to deliver scalable cloud-native solutions supporting analytics, AI and operational intelligence.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and SQL skills; Java/Scala beneficial.
• Experience building large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing.

The Role

Envitia is looking for a Data Engineer to join our growing Security & Intelligence Consulting team.

You'll help design and build modern data platforms that enable organisations across Defence, Government and National Security to make faster, better-informed decisions from complex and diverse datasets.

Working alongside data scientists, software engineers, architects and consultants, you'll create scalable cloud-native data solutions that support advanced analytics, AI/ML capabilities and operational intelligence systems.

This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll influence architecture, engineering approaches and the delivery of high-impact data capabilities.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Designing and developing modern data platforms and pipelines
• Building scalable batch and streaming data solutions
• Creating data lakes and cloud-native data architectures
• Ingesting, transforming and integrating data from multiple sources
• Supporting analytics, AI and machine learning workloads
• Implementing DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code practices
• Optimising performance, reliability and scalability across data services
• Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to solve complex data challenges

What We’re Looking For

• Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience of Java or Scala beneficial
• Experience building large-scale ETL/ELT and data processing pipelines
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing technologies
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native data platforms, particularly within AWS
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD delivery practices
• Understanding of data lake, data warehouse and modern analytics architectures
• Ability to work directly with stakeholders and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Security Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must hold a current high level security clearance.

Location

It is anticipated the role will require up to 80% (4d/wk) onsite working at client location in Cheltenham, London or Manchester.
