Black & White Recruitment is seeking a Data Engineer to join a small, collaborative data team. You will design, build and maintain data flows, ETL/ELT processes and data solutions that power operational reporting and decision-making.
The role emphasizes ownership, problem-solving and technical input beyond ticket-work, with a focus on scalable, reliable data platforms and improved data movement. This hybrid role requires office presence three days a week at a regional location; you'll work with
Are you a Data Engineer who enjoys solving real problems, improving clunky processes and having a genuine voice in how things are built?
My Client is growing its data function and is looking for a Data Engineer to join a small, collaborative team where your ideas, judgement and technical input will be valued. This is a role for someone who does not just want to pick up tickets and move on, but who wants to understand the bigger picture, challenge where needed, and help shape better ways of working.
You will be involved in building, maintaining and improving data flows, integrations, ETL processes and data solutions that support important operational reporting, automation and decision-making across the organisation.
As Data Engineer, you will design, develop and support reliable, secure and scalable data engineering solutions. This will include working with ETL and ELT processes, SQL databases, data models, APIs and integrations, while ensuring that data is accurate, performant and available when needed.
The role will involve a mix of project delivery, continuous improvement and operational support. Some of the work will focus on standard break-fix activity across ETL and data flows, while other areas will involve mobilising new services, integrating new data sources, improving existing processes and making data movement more efficient.
This is a hybrid role with a stronger office presence, typically three days per week from a regional office location. Specific location details will be discussed with suitable applicants during the recruitment process.
In this role, you will work closely with the Lead Data Engineer, wider data colleagues and stakeholders to translate data requirements into practical, robust technical solutions. You will design and maintain ETL and ELT processes, develop scalable data integrations, support database and data warehouse development, and help ensure that data solutions are secure, reliable and easy to maintain.
You will also play an important part in improving how things are done. This could mean identifying manual or inefficient processes, suggesting better approaches, optimising existing data flows, improving SQL performance, strengthening documentation or contributing to technical standards. My Client is particularly interested in someone who is comfortable engaging with stakeholders, asking the right questions and constructively pushing back when a better solution is needed.
You will not be expected to know every tool from day one, but you should bring a strong technical foundation, a proactive attitude and the confidence to learn new systems and contribute quickly. Integration work will be a key part of the role, so experience with SQL Server Integration Services, APIs, data exchange processes or similar integration tools would be highly valuable.
You will have solid experience in a data engineering environment, with strong SQL development skills and hands-on experience designing, developing and supporting ETL or ELT solutions. You will be comfortable working with data from multiple source systems and able to troubleshoot complex data issues, optimise performance and build solutions that are scalable and maintainable.
Just as importantly, you will bring the right mindset. My Client is looking for someone who takes ownership, stays calm when things need fixing, and approaches challenges with a positive, solutions-focused attitude. You will be someone who can work well in a small technical team, communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and contribute ideas that help the team improve. This role would suit a Data Engineer who wants to be more than a cog in a machine and is ready to make a visible impact.
