Job summary

NatWest Group is hiring a Data Engineer in Analytics Engineering to shape canonical and semantic data layers for PBWM. The role blends hands-on data engineering with governance, working to power analytics, AI, reporting and self-service capabilities.

You\'ll partner with Business, Technology and Functions to build trusted data products, ensuring data is accurate, secure, and reusable. Hybrid work with regular office presence in London or Edinburgh is available.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as Analytics Engineer, BI Engineer, or Data Architect in complex, data-rich environments.
• Proven track record of managing governed data products with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and quality control.
• Strong SQL and data modelling skills on modern formats in the cloud; comfortable with large, complex datasets.

Responsibilities

• Translate business needs into intuitive canonical and semantic data models.
• Design and evolve standardized cross-domain data models (party, account, deposit, mortgages) aligned with the enterprise data model.
• Build and maintain governed analytical data products, ensuring documentation, discovery, and reuse across teams.
• Define and implement data quality checks, SLAs, and governance practices to keep data accurate and compliant.
• Collaborate with data architects, engineers, BI teams, and data scientists to ensure scalable, performant models on our cloud data platform.

• You’llsit at the heart of our data ecosystem, partnering withBusiness,TechnologyandFunctionsto design clean, reusable dataassetsfrom the ground up, and turning them into trusted, governed data products that the business can rely on every day
• This is ahands onrole withsignificant influenceover how data is structured, governed, and consumed across PBWM
• You’ll work from home some of the time, but you’ll also spend at least twice a week working from our London or Edinburgh office

The skillsyou'llneed

To thrive in this role,you’llneed a strong understanding of data usage and dependencies and experience of extracting value and features from large scale data.You’llalso bring practicalexperience of programming languagesalongside knowledge of data and software engineering fundamentals.

Additionally,you’llneed:

• Significant experienceasanAnalytics Engineer, BI Engineer, or DataArchitectand worked in complex,data richenvironments
• Proventrack recordof managing governed data products with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and quality control
• Strongtrack recorddesigningcanonicaldata models that standardise entities across multiple systems or domainsand semantic layers that present data in a clearly to different audiences or stakeholders
• Excellent SQL and data modelling skillsonmodern formats like iceberg onAWS,with confidence working on large and complex datasets in the cloud
• Hands on experience with modern analytics in engineering practices such as, transformation-as-code, testing, version control and automated deployment
• Ability to communicate complex data concepts in simple terms and lead workshops with nontechnical stakeholders
