Job summary

GS Group is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team in Reading. You will report to Senior Data Engineers and help design and maintain data pipelines that ensure data is trustworthy and available where needed.

The role focuses on building scalable data infrastructure, writing Python and SQL, and collaborating with Analysts, Product and Software teams on metrics and data contracts. This is a hybrid role with three days per week in the Reading office.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Maths, Engineering or similar numerate subject.
• Evidence of Python/SQL from projects, placements or internships.
• Curiosity, ownership and willingness to take feedback.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines from source systems and applications.
• Keep data platform accurate, complete and on time.
• Write clean, maintainable Python and SQL.
• Collaborate with Analysts, Product and Software Engineering on metrics and data capture.
• Deliver small features from requirement to production with senior guidance.

The focus is on designing and building the infrastructure that deliver accurate, meaningful data

What you'll do

• Build and maintain data pipelines from source systems and applications
• Keep our data platform accurate, complete and on time
• Write clean, maintainable Python and SQL
• Work with Analysts, Product and Software Engineering on metrics, data contracts and data capture
• Take small, scoped features from requirement to production, supported by our Senior Data Engineer

What we're looking for

• A degree in Computer Science, Maths, Engineering or a similar numerate subject
• Python and SQL, from university projects, personal builds, or a placement
• Curiosity, ownership and a willingness to take feedback

Nice to have:

Spark or similar, data modelling basics, CI/CD (tests, linting, deploy pipelines), cloud exposure.

Experience:

None required. A placement, internship or six months in a related role is a bonus, not a requirement. We care more about how you think than how long you've done it.
