Job summary

Nurseplus is seeking an experienced Data Engineer for a remote-first, UK-based role with occasional on-site collaboration. You will own data environments, pipelines and architecture, and work with the technology team to build scalable data solutions that support reporting and digital products.

Key responsibilities include designing scalable storage, building ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring data reliability and security, and maintaining documentation and APIs for core applications.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms and managed databases.
  • Advanced SQL and database design and performance tuning skills.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, API integrations and automated data processes.
  • BI experience including semantic model design (Power BI, etc.).
  • Experience with an ORM such as Entity Framework Core.
  • Strong data security understanding including OAuth 2.0, SAML and encryption.
  • Experience with cloud cost optimisation and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Own the cloud data environment, improve performance, scalability and cost efficiency.
  • Design and implement scalable data storage structures and cloud solutions.
  • Build ETL/ELT pipelines and data integrations between systems.
  • Develop reliable data models and layered structures for reporting and analytics.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance including queries and indexes.
  • Establish data governance, security, backup, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Create and maintain data marts and semantic models for BI and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain APIs and data services for core apps and mobile solutions.
  • Implement monitoring, scheduling and alerts for data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts and non-technical stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation including data dictionaries and ER diagrams.

Are you an experienced Data Engineer looking for your next challenge? Do you enjoy designing scalable data solutions, improving systems and taking ownership of how data is managed across an organisation?

We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to take ownership of our data environment, pipelines and architecture. You’ll work closely with our Lead Technology Architect and wider technology team to build scalable data solutions, improve performance, automate processes and ensure our data is reliable, secure and ready to support reporting, analytics and digital products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of our cloud data environment, identifying opportunities to improve performance, scalability and cost efficiency.

  • Design and implement scalable data storage, structures and cloud solutions.

  • Build automated ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations between operational systems, third-party platforms and internal applications.

  • Develop reliable data models and layered data structures to support consistent reporting and analytics.

  • Monitor and optimise database performance, including query and index optimisation.

  • Establish data governance, security, backup, disaster recovery and audit processes.

  • Build and maintain data marts and semantic models supporting business intelligence and reporting.

  • Develop and maintain APIs and data services supporting core applications and mobile solutions.

  • Implement monitoring, scheduling and alerting to ensure data pipelines remain reliable.

  • Work closely with developers, analysts and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.

  • Maintain clear technical documentation, including data dictionaries, data flows, ER diagrams and architecture decisions.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years' experience in Data Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms, managed databases, storage and orchestration services.

  • Advanced SQL, database design and performance tuning skills.

  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, API integrations and automated data processes.

  • Experience with Business Intelligence, including DAX, Power Query and semantic model design.

  • Experience with an ORM such as Entity Framework Core.

  • Strong understanding of data security and authentication, including OAuth 2.0, SAML and encryption.

  • Experience with cloud cost optimisation, resource governance and monitoring.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-native data solutions.

  • Experience working with complex, multi-system data integrations.

  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

  • Experience remediating and improving existing/inherited infrastructure.

Desirable
  • Experience with modern data warehouse or lakehouse platforms.

  • Experience with notebook-based development and distributed data processing frameworks.

  • CRM integration experience.

  • CI/CD pipeline configuration.

  • Experience supporting mobile application backend services.

  • Low-code/no-code automation experience.

  • Experience working within a regulated environment.
