Are you ready to be part of something extraordinary?

Here at believe housing, we’re firmly into one of the most exciting chapters in our story, with an ambitious programme of transformation now well underway - reshaping how we think, work and create exceptional value and experiences for our customers and colleagues. And we’re looking for people who want to be at the heart of its next phase.

Our recently established Target Operating Model (TOM) programme brings together new technologies, reimagined services and change across every part of the business, with our workstreams underway and our programme approach continuing to mature.

If you thrive in fast-moving environments, love solving real problems, and want to help strengthen and shape something brilliant for our customers, this is your moment.

We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our team on a fixed-term contract until April 2029.

We believe in life without barriers, if you think you’d be great in the role, we want to hear from you. We’re interested in your skills, experience and personal values and we’re committed to being a supportive and inclusive employer.

A flexible approach that works for you

We’re a family-friendly organisation, and we encourage everyone to ‘work the believe way’; keeping things simple, focusing on what matters and removing unnecessary tasks.

Your working arrangements will be flexible, based on the needs of the role, our customers and your preferences (agreed with your manager). Our offices are in Seaham and Bishop Auckland, and this role will require an on-site presence for part of the week.

About the role

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building and optimising scalable data pipelines that reliably support business and analytical needs. You’ll apply structured, evidence‑based problem‑solving to identify trends, diagnose root causes and generate meaningful insights, ensuring that all data outputs are accurate, consistent and supported by robust validation and automated quality processes.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Design, develop and maintain scalable SQL‑based data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and integrations across an on-premise database system
  • develop, optimise and maintain SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views and transformation processes to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence
  • support the organisations transition toward Microsoft Fabric, contributing to the development of cloud‑based data pipelines, lakehouses and modern data engineering solutions
  • implement data quality, validation, monitoring and error‑handling processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, integrity and reliability of organisational data
  • collaborate with Data Analysts, BI developers, IT teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective, business‑focused data solutions
  • monitor, troubleshoot and optimise data processes and infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, scalability and operational efficiency
  • maintain technical documentation, data engineering standards, security, governance and best practices, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and relevant regulatory requirements within the social housing sector.

We offer a competitive salary of £50,299 to £51,698 per annum and:

  • Up to 33 days annual leave, plus four volunteering days
  • access to our healthcare scheme
  • flexible working that supports your wellbeing
  • a positive, inclusive culture where growth and development are genuinely encouraged.
