We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a fast-paced technology environment in London. This role will focus on building reliable data pipelines and curated datasets, improving data quality, and understanding complex data flows across multiple systems.
The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on SQL and data engineering expertise with the ability to investigate complex data issues, identify root causes and work across technical teams to implement sustainable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and optimise ETL/ELT data pipelines across multiple data sources
- Write and optimise complex SQL queries, including joins, window functions and performance tuning
- Translate business requirements into reliable, auditable datasets
- Perform data mining, reconciliation and root-cause analysis across complex data sources
- Map end-to-end data lineage and system flows, from source and ingestion through transformation and serving
- Build and maintain curated data layers, data marts and warehouse structures
- Design and implement data quality controls, monitoring, alerting and remediation processes
- Investigate pipeline failures, data anomalies and quality issues and resolve problems at source
- Develop scalable processes for the identification, prioritisation and resolution of data quality issues
- Work closely with product, analytics, platform and source-system teams
- Produce clear technical documentation including lineage maps, data definitions, DQ rules and operational runbooks
- Lead technical workshops around systems, data flows and root-cause analysis
- Strong hands-on SQL skills, including advanced querying and performance optimisation
- Commercial Data Engineering experience within complex enterprise environments
- Strong experience designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines
- Data warehouse and/or domain data platform experience
- Strong understanding of dimensional and/or domain-oriented data modelling
- Hands-on data quality engineering, profiling and remediation experience
- Experience investigating data issues across multiple systems and identifying root causes
- Understanding of incremental loads, CDC, backfills, late-arriving data and rerun-safe pipelines
- Experience with data observability, monitoring and troubleshooting
- Strong system and data-flow discovery skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Data governance, ownership and stewardship frameworks
- Compute infrastructure supporting modern data platforms
- Scheduling and orchestration concepts
- Data platform security, access controls and auditability
- Incident, change and problem management / ITIL environments
- Experience working within large, matrixed enterprise organisations
