Data Engineer
Seeking experienced Data Engineers to support a growing data transformation and cloud modernisation programme.
This role is suited to strong developers and delivery-focused engineers rather than technical leads. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, collaborating with business and technology stakeholders, and delivering high-quality solutions with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and optimise scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines.
- Develop and maintain solutions using Databricks, Python and SQL.
- Support migration of data assets from legacy platforms into modern cloud-based architectures.
- Integrate data from multiple enterprise systems, including Oracle databases.
- Develop reusable data engineering frameworks and best practices.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, security and performance standards are met.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable fixes.
- Collaborate with architects, data analysts, business stakeholders and delivery teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge transfer activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer within large enterprise environments.
- Hands-on expertise with Databricks.
- Advanced SQL development skills.
- Strong Python development experience.
- Extensive experience working with Oracle databases.
- Proven experience building and supporting data pipelines and data integration solutions.
- Experience working within cloud-based data platforms.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, performance optimisation and data quality controls.
- Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills.
Desirable Experience
- Banking or Financial Services experience.
- Experience working within regulated environments.
- Exposure to Azure Data Platform services.
- Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices for data engineering.
- Experience supporting cloud migration or modernisation programmes.
- Familiarity with data governance and data lineage principles.
Preferred Background
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of Data Engineering experience.
- Strong development capability rather than architecture or management focus.
- Experience delivering data solutions within complex enterprise organisations.
- Ability to quickly understand business requirements and convert them into robust technical solutions.
