Job summary

A manufacturing company in Exeter is seeking a Specialist Buyer to join the procurement team. You will manage material availability, optimize inventory and drive working capital improvements while balancing cost and service levels.

You will build strong supplier relationships, review MRP inputs, and lead process improvements across purchasing. The role suits data‑driven professionals with strong analytical and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Buyer, Procurement or Supply Chain within manufacturing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and performance.
• Understanding of MRP and purchasing processes.
• Ability to interpret data for commercial decisions.
• Confident cross-functional collaboration in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure material availability aligns with production demand.
• Review and challenge MRP recommendations where appropriate.
• Build and maintain supplier relationships to improve quality, delivery and cost.
• Monitor supplier KPIs and manage supply risks.
• Support inventory optimisation and working capital projects.
• Negotiate terms to improve cash flow.
• Maintain purchasing and supplier data in the ERP system.
• Collaborate with planning, production, engineering, quality and logistics to resolve issues.
• Identify and implement purchasing and supply chain improvements.
