Job summary

PRS is recruiting a Shift Technician for a critical data centre in Harlow. You will join an established engineering team, applying electrical or mechanical skills to ensure high availability and reliable operations.

The role covers PPM and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and supporting essential plant including UPS, generators, switchgear, HVAC and chillers. A NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is preferred, with strong communication and teamwork to ensure safe, compliant shift handovers.

Qualifications

• Strong communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
• Experience in maintenance roles within data centres or critical environments is advantageous.
• Relevant electrical or mechanical background with PPM and fault diagnosis experience.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
• Monitor, maintain and inspect essential plant and building services to maximise operational uptime.
• Respond to equipment faults, alarms and breakdowns, carrying out fault-finding and corrective maintenance.
• Support the maintenance of critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, HVAC, chillers and associated plant.
• Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and respond to operational alerts.
• Complete routine plant inspections, equipment readings and operational checks.
• Assist with root cause analysis and implement measures to prevent recurring faults.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs and technical documentation.
• Follow site-specific health and safety procedures, including permit-to-work and safe systems of work.
• Support emergency response procedures and effective shift handovers.
• Coordinate with contractors and specialist engineers during maintenance and repair activities.
