Job description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

We’re looking for a Data Centre Technician. You will become the primary resolver for your support team, troubleshooting and solving all but the most complex infrastructure issues. You will create and maintain documentation on the technologies you support and convey Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) to junior staff. You understand all aspects of the equipment you support and can innovate and make decisions on your own while taking direction when given.

Regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, with participation in an on‑call rotation and requirement to provide shift coverage during emergencies. This may include responding to after‑hours calls, working outside regular business hours, 12‑hour shifts, or rotating shifts to ensure operational coverage during critical situations. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshooting facility and rack‑level events within internal Service‑Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
  • Respond to off‑hour emergency calls per on‑call rotation for any one of the region’s sites.
  • Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
  • Must be commutable to the Thames Valley Region.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in computer networking.
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems.
  • Can lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must be a UK national and able to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Can work in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
  • Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
  • Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment).
