Job description
Overview

As an Amazon Field Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for your region engage with diverse teams to perform design review, troubleshoot, support operational issues, lead audits and act as resident engineer during construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers in your region.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design‑solutions to add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal teams (operations, design engineering, server hardware, environmental health and safety) to promote standards and maintain consistency and reliability.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers and work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits, produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning and turnover.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 6+ cumulative years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities (data centers, power generation, oil/gas).
  • Experience using web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
  • Direct experience with the design, construction, operation or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Experience as resident engineer or hands‑on design consultant or owner’s engineer with knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/mass production.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment, etc).
  • EPMS/SCADA/BMS Controls system experience and chilled water system or liquid cooling experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with design, construction, operation or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities.
  • Ability to develop and apply design concepts across the project lifecycle.
