Data Center Manager – Leicester
Job Purpose
TESTQ Technologies is an IT services and solutions company whose offerings span a variety of industry sectors with strong technical, domain and process expertise helping clients grow their businesses and decrease operational costs on a continuous basis in an ever‑changing business environment. This opportunity is in the solution design and development arena for Data Center Manager who will play a major role with the technical design and development of the company’s technical offerings. The role is based at our Leicester office with occasional assignments at client locations.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and perform routine maintenance on data center infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Respond to and manage incidents or outages, including performing root cause analysis and implementing effective resolutions.
- Utilize monitoring tools and systems to track data center performance, including environmental conditions, system health, and uptime metrics.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on data center performance, incidents, and operational metrics to management and stakeholders.
- Manage, train, and develop a team of data center technicians and engineers, ensuring continuous skill development and operational excellence.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that motivates team members to achieve organizational goals.
- Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure smooth data center operations.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including procedures, configurations, and incident logs.
- Develop, implement, and test disaster recovery plans to ensure operational continuity during emergencies.
- Conduct regular reviews and testing of disaster recovery procedures to ensure readiness and effectiveness.
- Analyze complex technical issues, develop innovative solutions, and make data‑driven decisions to address data center challenges.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–3 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Data Management, or a related technical field.
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and cooling systems.
- Proficiency in network architecture and protocols, including LAN/WAN, VLANs, and routing topologies.
- Experience with operating systems (Windows, Linux) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM).
- Familiarity with cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Competence with monitoring and alerting tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, Prometheus, or DataDog.
- Knowledge of automation and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or Ansible).
- Experience with configuration management and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, Puppet, or Chef).
- Strong hardware troubleshooting skills for servers, storage devices, and networking components.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, including physical and network security practices.
- Experience with energy efficiency and sustainability practices (e.g., optimizing Power Usage Effectiveness – PUE).
- Knowledge of data protection and backup strategies, including encryption, redundancy, and disaster recovery.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical teams.
- Strong decision‑making skills, particularly during high‑pressure incidents or outages.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors.
- Experience implementing and managing ITIL‑based processes (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management capabilities, including contract negotiation and SLA adherence.
- Ability to plan and execute data center migrations, expansions, or modernization initiatives.
- Experience driving continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.

Additional Information
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or above in the UK or equivalent.
Salary: GBP 55,000 to 65,000 per annum.
Job Type: Full‑time, Permanent (Part‑time and Fixed‑Term options are available).
Location: Leicester.
