Job summary

Kings College London seeks a Senior Data Architect to lead Data Architecture with emphasis on Data Products and Governance. You will translate enterprise guidance into domain models and reusable patterns, connecting data domains, governance, and technology to enable interoperability and reuse.

The role covers designing conceptual to semantic data models across modern platforms, applying governance, ownership and lifecycle controls. Collaboration with multiple teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field and experience applying Data Architecture across enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing Data Products and Data Mesh principles, including boundaries, interfaces, discoverability and interoperability.
  • Strong experience in modeling conceptual, logical, physical and semantic data structures.
  • Practical experience with Data Governance, metadata, lineage, data quality, privacy and security.
  • Knowledge of master/reference data architecture and information lifecycle across domains.
  • Experience with modern data platforms, APIs, event-driven patterns, microservices and lakehouse architectures.
  • Familiarity with SAFe or similar Agile frameworks and translating data needs into architecture enablers.
  • Desirable certifications like TOGAF / CDMP and a relevant MSc or professional data/cloud certs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply Data Architecture with a focus on Data Products and Governance.
  • Translate enterprise direction into domain data architecture models, standards and patterns.
  • Apply Data as a Product and Mesh principles to enable interoperability and reuse.
  • Design data models across platforms, storage, master/reference data and lakehouse patterns.
  • Govern ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, privacy and retention for data assets.
  • Collaborate with owners, stewards, custodians, data users and external suppliers to meet needs.
  • Provide architecture enablers and reusable patterns; validate designs via MVPs/PoCs.

Job description

Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, with experience applying Data Architecture across enterprise and domain environments using recognised architecture principles, methods and standards.
  • We require experience designing Data Products and Data as a Product approaches, with good knowledge of Data Mesh principles, including product boundaries, consumers, interfaces, discoverability, interoperability and federated approaches.
  • We require strong experience developing conceptual, logical, physical and semantic data models, including domain models, transactional and analytical structures and common business definitions.
  • We require practical experience applying Data Governance Architecture, including data domains, ownership and stewardship, metadata, catalogue, lineage, data quality, classification, privacy and security.
  • We require good knowledge and practical experience of architecture for master and reference data, data storage, access, retention and information lifecycle, and how these support trusted and reusable data across domains.
  • We require experience with modern data platforms and integration patterns, including APIs, event-driven integration, microservices, data pipelines and lakehouse/medallion architecture, with knowledge of technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Purview, Azure and Python, and awareness of LLMs and AI-ready data patterns relevant to Data Architecture.
  • We require experience working with Agile delivery teams, using SAFe or equivalent Agile frameworks, to translate Data Architecture into architecture enablers, features, backlog items and implementation guidance, including using MVPs and PoCs to validate approaches and demonstrate value.
  • We require strong collaboration, facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, data users, Data Governance, Data Solutions, delivery teams and external suppliers, and translate data needs into practical architecture.
  • Desirable: relevant certification in Data Architecture, Enterprise Architecture or data management, such as TOGAF, DAMA/CDMP, ArchiMate or equivalent.
  • Desirable: a relevant Masters degree (MSc) in Data, Computer Science, Information Systems, Enterprise Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Desirable: relevant professional certification in data, cloud or information technologies, such as Microsoft Azure, Fabric, Purview, Power Platform or equivalent.
Responsibilities:
  • We develop and apply Data Architecture at Kings, with a particular focus on Data Products and Data Governance Architecture, supporting trusted, governed and reusable data across the University.
  • We translate enterprise architecture direction into domain Data Architecture, models, standards and reusable architecture patterns.
  • We apply Data as a Product and Data Mesh principles, connecting data domains, governance and technology to support interoperability and effective data reuse.
  • We design conceptual, logical, physical and semantic data models and architecture across modern data platforms, integration, storage, master and reference data, lakehouse and medallion patterns, microservices and reusable data services.
  • We apply Data Governance through ownership and stewardship, metadata, catalogue, lineage, data quality, classification, privacy, security, access and retention.
  • We work collaboratively with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, data users, Data Governance, Data Solutions, Business Architecture, Cloud & Platform, Agile delivery teams, other Professional Services teams and external suppliers.
  • We translate data needs into practical architecture, support delivery through architecture enablers, features, implementation guidance and reusable patterns, and validate Data Product architecture through priority use cases, MVPs and PoCs.
