Job summary

Abacus Cybersecurity Engineer role, Edinburgh area, collaborates with Cybersecurity, Engineering and Service teams to address escalated issues, manage SOC escalations, and support new security initiatives.

The engineer demonstrates leadership presence, strong technical and interpersonal skills, familiarity with industry tools, and the ability to mentor junior team members while handling pressure and tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a system engineering or technical security role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science or similar focus.
  • Microsoft Certified (MCSE) or equivalent certification a plus.
  • Microsoft Cloud Security certifications preferred.
  • Security Certificate such as; CompTIA CySA, Security+ and Network+, ISC-2 CCSP/SSCP).

Responsibilities

  • High interaction with Security, Engineering and Service teams, responding to escalated issues in a timely fashion.
  • Respond and action alerts from our SOC escalations and security tooling to maintain health and security of our platform.
  • Lead Incident coordination between internal and external entities in alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize interpersonal and technical skills to effectively communicate with management, peers, and clients.
  • Maintain an awareness of security and control issues in emerging technologies.
  • Ability to scope, implement and support new security projects/initiatives.
  • Ownership and follow up of pending issues to resolution.

Responsibilities (including, But Not Limited To The Following)
  • High interaction with the Security, Engineering and Service teams, responding to escalated issues in a timely fashion

  • Utilize interpersonal and technical skills to effectively communicate with management, peers, and clients

Skills
  • Familiarity with industry standard tools and applications (such as Palo Alto, Cisco Meraki, SonicWall, Fortigate, SentinelOne, ThreatLocker, MS Defender, G-Suite, Content Filtering, Protective DNS)
  • Heavy experience with the Incident Response lifecycle
  • Familiarity with Microsoft (Office365 & Azure) and Citrix (Virtual Apps & Desktops) technologies
  • Familiarity with open-source intelligence gathering
  • Scripting ability and experience working with API endpoints such as MS Graph.
  • Ability to navigate and utilize a ticketing system (such as ConnectWise or Service Now)
  • Experience with change management and security remediation processes
  • Experience with security documentation, technical and policy writing
  • Ability to deliver technical/security information or concepts in a user-friendly format
  • Takes ownership and excels in both independent and team project work
  • Ability to work under pressure and with short deadlines
  • Occasional on call nights, weekend and emergency on call is required within this role.
