The starting salary will be from £50,253to £56,535on Grade G, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some time on campus and some from home.

This is a senior technical leadership role within our Cyber & Information Security function. You will lead the development of our cyber security engineering and architecture capability, translating the University’s Cyber Security Strategy into a practical technology roadmap that supports secure, resilient and innovative digital services.
Working across IT Services and with suppliers and project teams, you will act as the technical authority for Secure by Design. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading security architecture reviews, providing technical assurance for new systems and major changes, developing security standards and reference architectures, evaluating emerging technologies, and overseeing the lifecycle of our cyber security platforms.
You will work closely with colleagues in Enterprise Architecture, Digital Delivery, Infrastructure, Identity and Access Management, Cyber Security Operations, Information Security and Research IT. You will also provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to colleagues working across security engineering and architecture.
Participation in the out-of-hours on-call support rota is a requirement of the role and includes providing incident response and technical escalation when on call.
You will bring substantial experience of cyber security architecture, security engineering and secure solution design within a large or complex organisation. You will have strong knowledge of modern security architectures, including cloud, identity, endpoint and Zero Trust security, together with a sound understanding of recognised frameworks and guidance such as ISO 27001, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, the Cyber Assessment Framework and NCSC guidance.
You will be able to develop technical roadmaps, standards and architectural patterns, assess complex technical risks and recommend pragmatic, proportionate solutions. Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills are essential, as you will need to explain complex security matters clearly and influence technical decisions across multidisciplinary teams without relying on formal authority.
You will also have experience of providing technical leadership, mentoring colleagues and building effective relationships across architecture, engineering, operational and delivery teams. A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience is required, alongside a recognised cyber security qualification or demonstrable equivalent professional knowledge and experience.
