Cyber Security Analyst - 3 Month Contract Role / Government / Inside IR35

Are you ready to make a significant impact in the realm of cyber security? A prestigious government department is seeking a Cyber Security Analyst for a 3-month assignment, offering a unique chance to enhance your skills and contribute to national security. Inside IR35. Out-of-hours on call rota. 60% on site in Central London.

This role offers strong opportunities for growth through hands‑on cyber security operations and incident response. You'll mentor junior analysts, collaborate with other Cyber Defence teams, and take on varied tasks from alert triage to incident coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage and investigate cyber security alerts and reports from users.
  • Use a variety of techniques to analyse systems, files, network traffic, and cloud environments.
  • Support the technical response to cyber incidents by identifying and implementing containment, eradication, and recovery actions.
  • Coordinate cyber incidents and contribute to post-incident reviews.
  • Identify and support the delivery of continual improvements to the incident investigation and response capability.
  • Contribute to internal plans, playbooks, and knowledge base articles.
  • Act as an escalation point and provide coaching and mentoring to apprentice security analysts.
  • Be responsible for line management of apprentice security analysts.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Proven experience in investigating and responding to cyber incidents.
  • Proficiency with security tools (e.g., EDR, SIEM) to support investigations.
  • Experience with SIEM tools (Splunk preferred, but Microsoft Sentinel or equivalent acceptable).
  • Understanding of tools, techniques, and procedures used by threat actors.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS.
