A local disability support organization in Hull seeks Personal Assistants to help support an 11-year-old non-verbal boy and a 13-year-old boy during social and leisure activities. The successful candidates will need to engage both boys positively while promoting their independent living skills and managing supervision outdoors. Previous experience with children with special needs is essential. This role involves 20 hours per week during school holidays, with a pay rate of £12.21 per hour.
Further information: One or two Personal Assistants are required to support an 11‑year‑old, non‑verbal boy and a 13‑year‑old boy to access social and leisure activities within the community.
The 11‑year‑old loves bugs, the outdoors, parks and airplanes. He can use the toilet at home but may need reassurance outside the family home. He is often anxious about scary things seen on television and will ask for help and reassurance.
The 13‑year‑old enjoys wooded areas but must wear a wrist strap outside to prevent wandering. He needs constant supervision; if he wants to leave, he can move quickly. He has limited verbal communication but can request simple needs such as a drink or the toilet. He can use the toilet independently but must be supervised near taps as he loves water and tends to turn taps on.
The successful applicant will be active, positive, confident and extremely supportive. You will promote the boys' independent living and life skills, with a main focus on engaging them in social activities.
