Customs Clerk - Grays - Up to £32,000

We're looking for a Customs Clerk to join our client's team in Grays, UK. You will be responsible for handling all import/export customs formalities for road freight movements, including goods processed through the company's ETSF. Ensures full compliance with HMRC and international trade regulations while maintaining efficient cargo flow.

Job type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £32,000 DOE

Days: Monday to Friday (One Saturday a month but paid as overtime - This will be half day)

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit import/export and transit (T1/T2) declarations via CDS, NCTS, and GVMS.
  • Manage customs processes for goods arriving/departing the ETSF, ensuring accurate control and record-keeping.
  • Liaise with HMRC, port authorities, customers, and hauliers to resolve queries and ensure timely clearance.
  • Verify tariff codes, valuations, and origins for accurate declarations.
  • Maintain compliance with current customs and ETSF regulations and support audits as required.
  • Coordinate with transport and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operational flow.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven customs clearance experience within a road freight environment. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of ETSF operations and HMRC systems (CDS, NCTS, GVMS).
  • Understanding of Incoterms, tariff codes, and import/export documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and communication skills.
  • Computer literate with good administrative ability.
  • Experience in bonded/ETSF environments (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of post-Brexit customs requirements
  • Relevant customs or freight forwarding qualification (e.g., BIFA, IOE&IT).
