Chartwells, part of the Compass Group family, is excited to offer an opportunity for a Customer Service Assistant to join our vibrant team at Northumbria University's Coach Lane Campus.

This is a 30-hour-per-week role, working five days out of seven (mainly Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend events), and is fixed-term until 31st May 2026.

As a Customer Service Assistant, you'll be at the heart of our operation-delivering outstanding service to students and university staff alike. You'll work across a dynamic catering environment that includes a popular high-street coffee brand, a modern hot-food servery, and convenient vending outlets.

We love food, love great events and are passionate about delivering the best.

Key duties:
  • Operate tills, taking card transactions and cash handling.
  • Ensure displays are in line with SOPs.
  • To demonstrate a can-do attitude towards individual customer requests and strive to exceed customer expectations.
  • Queue times are kept to a minimum.
  • To acquire a good knowledge of all products in order to be able to advise individual customers on their product choice.
  • Keeping on top of the units appearance by cleaning all work areas during and after use and removing all waste to the appropriate disposal area.
  • Restocking vending machines ensuring stock rotation
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness for both the interior and exterior of the machines
  • Report any maintenance issues with the machines promptly.
  • Complying with Health & Safety regulations
  • Complying with Food Handling & Hygiene standards
