Job summary

Waitrose & Partners in Colchester is seeking a Customer Delivery Driver to bring quality Waitrose produce to customers’ doors and support shop colleagues with daily tasks. You’ll be the face of the brand on the road, delivering orders efficiently while maintaining high customer service standards.

Role requires a full UK B-category licence, good time management, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. Night premium applies for night hours. 30-hour part-time pattern across seven days.

Qualifications

  • Full valid UK B-category driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Strong time management abilities.
  • Able to cope with physical tasks including lifting crates and moving cages.
  • Able to work independently with self-motivation and adaptability.
  • IT literate and comfortable with basic tech.

Responsibilities

  • Check daily delivery routes and plan efficiently.
  • Load and prepare van for deliveries, ensuring orders reach customers intact.
  • Perform vehicle safety checks and maintain road compliance and safety.
  • Represent the Waitrose brand with high standards of customer service.
  • Assist customers with shopping and build rapport based on trust.
  • Support shop colleagues with general duties when needed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As one of our Customer Delivery Drivers, you'll be bringing the unique blend of quality Waitrose produce and Partner-led service right to our customers' doors. Actively playing out our ethos - passionate Partners serving food lovers.

When you're not out on the road, you'll be back at the shop supporting the team with daily tasks like stock replenishment and housekeeping. Contributing to the efficient and productive running of the shop in a friendly and welcoming team.

In addition to your contractual pay, any time worked between 22:00 - 06:00 will attract Night Premium at a rate of £3.75 per hour. This will also apply to existing Partners who have enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.

Due to its nature, you need to be 18-years or older to work in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Checking your delivery routes for the day.
  • Loading and preparing your van for deliveries, ensuring all orders are together and can be efficiently delivered directly to customers.
  • Ensuring all of the appropriate vehicle safety checks are complete on your van, maintaining full road compliance, health and safety.
  • Being an ambassador for the Waitrose brand while on the road with great customer service as your number one priority.
  • Helping customers with their shopping and building a rapport with them based on trust and service.
  • Supporting the wider shop team when required with general shopkeeping tasks.
Essential skills/experience you'll need
  • Full valid B-Category UK manual driving licence with no more than 6-points.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Able to cope with the physical requirements of the role (e.g. lifting of crates, moving cages).
  • Comfortable working independently with the ability to be self motivated and adaptable.
  • IT literate.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
  • Previous experience in a driving role and a knowledge of chilled vehicles would be welcomed.
