Job summary

Parkway School District is looking for a dedicated Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming school facilities at McKelvey Intermediate Elementary School. The role supports after-hours operations with a focus on reliability, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Starting pay is $17.50 per hour, with increases based on verifiable experience. This year-round, non-exempt position runs 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and requires a High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
• Coordinates with building administration to assist with maintenance activities.
• Informs staff and students about safety and maintenance issues and directions.
• Performs various maintenance/setup duties to support events and daily operations.
• Prepares site for daily operations and ensures facilities are hazard-free.
• Responds to safety and operational concerns and notifies appropriate personnel.

Location: McKelvey Intermediate Elementary School

Position: Year-round (12 Mos.), 8 Hours

Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Open Date: 2/4/2026

Closing Date: 9/13/2026

Starting Pay: $17.50 per hour (& up, depending on verifiable experience)

Essential Functions

• Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, cafeteria, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, lockers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
• Confers with building administration to assists with the coordination of activities for the purpose of ensuring the proper and efficient maintenance of assigned buildings, facilities, and grounds.
• Informs students, teachers, and on-site personnel for the purpose of providing information and direction regarding activities, safety issues and concerns, and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
• Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
• Performs a variety of maintenance and setup duties (e.g. strip/wax floors, moves furniture/supplies/equipment, sort and dispose of waste/recyclables, setup chairs/tables, playground inspections, etc.) for the purpose of completing and/or facilitating maintenance projects and providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies and events.
• Prepares site for daily operations (e.g. opening/closing gates, raising flags, securing doors/windows, sweeping walkway, snow/ice removal, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and hazard free.
• Provides assistance with students and pedestrians across streets, as needed, for the purpose of ensuring visibility for students and other pedestrians to safely enter designated crossing.
• Replenishes classroom and rest room supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, tissues, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use.
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, bodily fluid clean up, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, windows, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss, and/or potential liability.
• Supports other site maintenance staff (e.g. grounds, trades, etc.) for the purpose of completing site custodial activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Clearances: Criminal Background Check required.
