Job summary

Reed in Basingstoke is seeking a motivated Criminal Paralegal to join its busy Criminal Defence team. You will support fee earners across a broad range of criminal matters, including case preparation, drafting documents, and liaising with clients and courts.

Qualifications

• Experience as paralegal, legal assistant or in criminal law.
• Interest in pursuing a career in Criminal Defence.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Law Degree, LPC, SQE studies or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of criminal defence cases (Legal Aid & Private Client).
• Draft legal documents and correspondence.
• Liaise with clients, courts, barristers and external agencies.
• Manage case files and ensure compliance procedures.
• Conduct legal research and prepare case bundles.

An established and respected law firm in Basingstoke is seeking a motivated Criminal Paralegal to join its busy Criminal Defence team.

The Role

You will provide support to fee earners across a broad range of criminal matters, including:

• Assisting with the preparation of criminal defence cases (Legal Aid & Private Client Cases)
• Drafting legal documents and correspondence
• Liaising with clients, courts, barristers and external agencies
• Managing case files and ensuring compliance procedures are followed
• Conducting legal research and preparing case bundles
• Supporting the team with day-to-day administrative and case management tasks

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous paralegal, legal assistant or criminal law experience
• A genuine interest in pursuing a career within Criminal Defence
• Excellent communication and organisational skillsStrong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team
• A Law Degree, LPC, SQE studies, or equivalent legal qualification would be advantageous but is not essential
