CRIMINAL COMPLIANCE REGULATORY ASSOCIATE | 1-3 PQE | NATIONAL LAW FIRM | BIRMINGHAM

BCL Legal is pleased to be assisting a top-ranked national law firm with the recruitment of an Associate to join its highly respected Criminal Compliance Regulatory team. This exciting opportunity is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, with flexible and hybrid working supported. Excellent salary and benefits available.

The Role

As a Criminal Compliance Regulatory Associate, you will:

  • Join one of the strongest and most established regulatory teams in the country, acting for clients nationally across a wide range of industries including food, fashion, retail and manufacturing.
  • Advise and assist private sector clients on compliance and regulatory matters, including interpreting relevant regulations and guidance, drafting compliance policies and procedures, and advising on due diligence in corporate transactions.
  • Liaise directly with regulators, handle civil and criminal enforcement matters, and represent clients in product recall issues including Trading Standards investigations.
  • Defend clients in regulatory investigations and prosecutions conducted by the HSE, Environment Agency, police, local authorities and other regulators-this includes preparing for interviews under caution, advising on evidence and plea, and assisting with inquests.
  • Play an active role in helping grow the practice, with opportunities to contribute to marketing initiatives and client development.
  • Take on responsibility from the outset while benefiting from strong supervision, support and ongoing training.
About You

To be successful in your application for this Criminal Compliance Regulatory Associate vacancy, you will have:

  • 1-3 years' PQE, ideally with exposure to regulatory, compliance, criminal regulatory or health & safety matters (although candidates with strong transferrable experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulations, draft clear advice, and support clients through complex compliance processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with regulators and advise clients on technical issues.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to master internal and external procedures quickly.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and, ideally, experience using case management systems and online research databases.
  • A collaborative, ambitious and commercially minded approach, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently.
  • A commitment to recording time promptly, achieving financial targets, and contributing to team success.
  • A willingness to attend marketing, networking and client events.
