Job summary

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Crew Manager - Special Operations USAR National Resilience Trainer to oversee day-to-day duty USAR team operations and ensure appliances, equipment and personnel are ready to meet emergencies, under the direction of the USAR Team Leader.

The role also involves supporting Station 60 personnel and nationally trained staff, with duties including leadership, training delivery, incident response, and contributing to development of teams while

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Training for Competence framework.
• Experience working in National Resilience (eg USAR, HVP, LACE water rescue, rope rescue, safety at height and confined spaces).
• Sound operational knowledge and appreciation of the dynamic environment in which the USAR team operates.
• Leadership skills with ability to direct others in a positive and persuasive manner.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-organisation and diplomacy.
• Flexibility to provide extended periods of operational response for major incidents.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Maintenance of a high level of fitness.
• Able to work at extreme heights and in confined spaces.
• USAR 2 qualification.
• Level 1 IC qualification; be a competent Firefighter and be in Crew Manager promotion pathway.
• Be competent in national USAR operations qualifications 1 & 2.
• Level 1 IC qualification.
• Not subject to formal performance actions or active disciplinary sanctions

Job description

As our Crew Manager - Special Operations USAR National Resilience Trainer, you will be responsible, under the direction of the USAR Team Leader, for the day-to-day running of the duty USAR team and ensuring that appliances, equipment, and personnel attached to the team are effective and in a state of readiness to meet all normal emergency requirements. Additionally, you will assist with the management of Station 60 personnel, and out posted National Resilience trained Staff both Wholetime and callback.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide a base for their period of standby duty within 30 minutes of USARs Station 60.
