Job summary

Wise is building an international credit program and a transparent, reliable system for global use. We seek an Engineering Manager to own the first credit offering, ship the initial cards and lead a high‑performing team. You will drive the technical roadmap, hire engineers and collaborate with product managers to deliver scalable fintech solutions.

You will guide architecture, code reviews, and best practices while ensuring compliance and reliability across a global market.

Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems.
• Experience delivering products from 0 to 1 and in payments/fintech domains.
• Proven leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and ensure the product is maintained to high standards.
• Lead the development of new solutions and drive initiatives from the ground up.
• Serve as a technical expert for the broader credit domain.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding architecture, code reviews and best practices.
• Ensure code quality, consistency and maintainability through reviews.
• Hire, lead, coach and mentor a diverse team of engineers.
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to drive product road-mapping and strategy.

We need an Engineering Manager to build out the first credit offering and ensure we can build a transparent, reliable and trustworthy system that complies with local regulations around the world and serves our global market.

About The Role

Senior Engineering Manager responsible for shipping the first credit cards, driving the technical roadmap, hiring teams, and building a high‑performance engineering organization.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and ensure the product is maintained to high standards.
• Lead the development of new solutions and drive initiatives from the ground up.
• Serve as a technical expert for the broader credit domain.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership, guiding the team on architecture, code reviews, and best practices.
• Ensure code quality, consistency, and maintainability through code reviews.
• Hire, lead, coach, and mentor a diverse group of engineers.
• Partner with product managers and other stakeholders to drive product road‑mapping and strategy.
• Collaborate with other engineering managers, staff engineers, and product teams to shape technical roadmaps.
• Help the team navigate complex priorities and make trade‑offs to deliver solutions that reduce risk and unlock growth.
• Act as a key representative of the team, collaborating with stakeholders across the company and leading projects from inception to release.

Qualifications

• Strong background in software engineering with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems.
• Experience building products from 0 to 1.
• Expertise delivering reliable and robust services in production.
• Comfortable working on a complex domain and guiding a team through technical challenges.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud architecture.
• Experience leading a team in payments, fintech, or other complex, high‑stakes domains.
• Experience in a global, distributed setup and scaling teams for global reach.
• Strong product mindset and sense of ownership.
• Excellent communication and ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Empathetic leadership with a track record of mentorship.
