Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Credit Risk Analyst.

In this role you will support the Wholesale Credit Risk team by delivering accurate, timely portfolio monitoring, model and scorecard monitoring and high-quality MI. The role focuses on producing recurring MI packs and dashboards, maintaining reporting logic and controls, and performing quantitative analysis to identify trends, emerging risks, and key drivers of portfolio performance.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you’ll:
1) Portfolio Monitoring & Insight
  • Monitor the Small Business Banking credit portfolio across a variety of metrics, including segment, product, geography, industry, score band, exposure size, vintage and channel.
  • Track key risk indicators (KRIs) and performance metrics, e.g. delinquency/arrears, roll rates, cure rates, default rates, write-offs, limit utilisation and exposure movements.
  • Perform driver analysis on movements in portfolio performance (e.g. mix change vs underlying credit deterioration/improvement).
  • Support regular portfolio reviews by preparing concise commentary, escalation points, and “so what” insights.
  • Produce periodic deep-dives (e.g. industry/sector hotspots, concentration analysis, vintage/behavioural cohort performance, risk grade migration).
2) MI Creation, Maintenance & Controls
  • Produce recurring MI outputs (weekly/monthly/quarterly packs) to agreed timetables, ensuring robust governance and controls (reconciliations, validation checks, sign-off readiness, version control).
  • Maintain MI definitions, calculation logic, and documentation (KPI library, data dictionary, methodology notes, lineage and assumptions).
  • Ensure consistency of MI across stakeholders by standardising metrics and clearly documenting changes.
  • Improve MI processes through automation and simplification to reduce manual effort and operational risk.
3) Data Management & Quality
  • Extract, transform and validate data from internal sources; perform data quality checks and reasonableness testing.
  • Investigate data breaks and anomalies, clearly articulate root cause and impact, and coordinate fixes with data/technology teams.
  • Maintain controlled datasets used for portfolio monitoring with clear audit trails and repeatable workflows.
4) Stakeholder Management & Communication
  • Work closely with Credit Risk colleagues and business partners to translate MI requirements into robust analytical outputs.
  • Present analysis clearly and credibly using concise narratives and visualisations suitable for senior stakeholders.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests (e.g. exposure/performance cuts, industry views, event-driven monitoring) while protecting BAU deliverables.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a numerate discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics, Data Science or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and an evidenced control mindset (reconciliations, sanity checks, issue logs).
  • Ability to interpret and explain quantitative outputs in clear business language.
Essential Technical Skills
  • Python for automation, analysis, and reproducible reporting workflows.
  • Excel (PivotTables, macros, robust spreadsheet controls).
  • SAS/SQL capability for data extraction and transformation (or demonstrable ability to learn quickly).
Preferred / Advantageous
  • Power BI / PyDash (or similar) for dashboarding and visual storytelling.
  • Practical experience in analytics or MI production (graduate role, internship, placement, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of credit risk concepts (delinquency/arrears, roll/migration, vintage analysis, concentration risk).
  • Experience producing MI packs/dashboards and maintaining reporting logic/documentation.
Opening up a world of opportunity.
