We are seeking a Creative Arts Assistant to join our fantastic supply team, working in SEND schools across Durham. These schools support children with a range of additional needs who often thrive through creative, hands-on learning experiences.

In this role, you’ll use your artistic talents—such as art, music, drama, dance, or crafts—to engage pupils, support emotional expression, and build confidence. You’ll work 1 : 1 and in small groups, adapting creative activities to meet individual needs and helping children communicate, regulate emotions, and enjoy learning in a safe, supportive environment.

The Ideal Creative Arts Assistant Will Be
  • Passionate about using creativity to support SEND pupils
  • Confident delivering creative activities in school settings
  • Patient, nurturing, and adaptable in their approach
  • Able to build strong relationships through encouragement and positive reinforcement
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with emotional, sensory, or communication needs
  • Experience in education, SEND, youth work, or the arts is highly valued, but enthusiasm, creativity, and a caring attitude are just as important.
  • A DBS on the Update Service is required (or willingness to obtain one).
