Main Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and repairs of plant and protection systems on the 132 kV, 33 kV distribution network, including mechanical/electrical fitting.
  • Work to set procedures and ensure health & safety requirements are fully met.
  • Complete all allocated tasks in a safe and timely manner, willing to learn and develop knowledge.
  • Undertake operational duties on the distribution network, including the receipt of safety documentation relating to substation work activities up to 132 kV.
Ideal Candidate
  • Relevant practical electrical fitting experience working in 132 kV/33 kV substation sites, including electrical/mechanical fitting or wiring experience.
  • Consideration for appointment on a designate basis to applicants lacking all skills but possessing the confidence and ability to reach required standards with appropriate training.
  • If not already attained, the successful candidate will be required to study for Level 2 City & Guilds 2339 qualification and complete TAR, which includes daily diary completion and a number of tasks and reports as required.
  • Training for authorisation to switch at 132 kV and 33 kV will be provided; commitment to achieving this level of authorisation is essential.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as part of a small team, making on‑spot decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Flexible attitude, willingness to undertake other duties and mobile throughout the area for standby duties.
  • Depending on experience, initial salary may be lower until all relevant courses and training are complete.
  • Job roles involving working at height and the use of Personal Fall Protection Equipment have restrictions on the maximum weight of the individual.
  • A satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check will be required; certain levels of screening and vetting may be required on a tri‑annual basis.
Qualifications
  • C/4–9 GCSE in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level qualification in both subjects. Evidence of qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
