About the Role

We are seeking a Cover Supervisor to join a vibrant team of professionals across secondary schools in Stoke-on-Trent. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate individual looking to contribute to the learning environment and assist in the smooth running of classrooms in the absence of teaching staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Supervision: Oversee classes in the absence of a teacher, ensuring that students are focused and complete assigned tasks.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement the school's behaviour policies and maintain a calm, controlled, and positive environment.
  • Support for Students: Provide additional support to students who may require assistance with their learning, ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Learning Support: Monitor student progress and provide feedback to both students and teachers, where appropriate.
  • Communication: Liaise with teachers and school staff to ensure continuity of learning and keep track of any issues that arise during lessons.
  • Safety and Wellbeing: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times, including managing risks and dealing with incidents effectively.
  • Classroom Preparation: Ensure the classroom is prepared and organised for the lesson, including setting up materials and equipment.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to different teaching styles and maintain a professional attitude in all situations.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to working within a busy school environment.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role.
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3).
  • Enhanced DBS check (can be arranged if necessary).
