Job Purpose

To prepare the daily cover rota for a school in Slough and cover lessons for absent teachers as required; to fulfil other related administrative duties as they arise.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and monitor the daily cover rota for Senior School staff ensuring all lessons are properly supervised.
  • Register staff absence using systems such as SIMS and Bromcom and plan cover in advance.
  • Make room changes as necessary and use the daily bulletin to inform staff.
  • Co‑ordinate the booking of rooms and liaise with other key staff on the ensuing room changes.
  • Produce and display the daily cover requirements by email by 8.00 am and in advance so staff are clear about any cover required.
  • Finalise cover for the day by 7.30 am and produce a list of absent staff by 8.00 am.
  • Advise the Senior Deputy Head & Senior Tutor when longer‑term supply may be required.
Cover Supervisor
  • Personally register and cover as many assigned classes as possible using the instructions provided by the class teacher and as advised by the Senior Tutor.
  • Follow the set work as left by the teacher.
  • Ensure pupils are clear about what they have to do in the lesson.
  • Be aware of pupils with special educational needs, medical conditions, potential behavioural problems and those identified as gifted & talented.
  • Have high expectations of the pupils’ behaviour, academic and social abilities.
  • Maintain a high standard of discipline and thereby create an environment in which pupils feel safe, secure and confident.
  • Collect all work done during the lesson, retaining it until it can be passed on to the class teacher via the agreed route upon their return.
  • Report any problems with the set work to the relevant Head of Department.
  • Have a good knowledge of any other statutory requirements related to the pupils’ education or welfare i.e. Every Child Matters.
