Cover Supervisor - SEMH Schools

Location: Birmingham & Surrounding Areas

Type: Full-Time / Long-Term

Salary: £95 per day (depending on experience and/or qualifications)

The School and Role

ABC Teachers are recruiting Cover Supervisors to work in SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools across Birmingham. These schools cater for students who may display challenging behaviour or have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining a positive and consistent learning environment when teachers are absent. You'll deliver pre-prepared lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and ensure students remain engaged in their learning.

This role is ideal for confident individuals who enjoy working with young people and want to make a real difference in an alternative education setting. Training and support will be provided, making it a great opportunity for those looking to start a career in education or transition from a background in youth work, sport, or mentoring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Maintain positive relationships and manage classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Support students' learning and emotional development in line with school policies.
  • Provide guidance, structure, and consistency for pupils throughout the school day.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to promote engagement and wellbeing.
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere for all students.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with young people (education, youth work, sport, or mentoring experience desirable).
  • Confidence to lead a class and maintain a calm learning environment.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and resilience.
  • A positive, proactive approach and willingness to learn.
  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Full training and ongoing support will be provided for candidates new to the role.
