Job description

A true comprehensive school is the most rewarding place to work, but it can also be a challenge. We are looking for someone with a mature, calm, and professional approach who believes that education has the power to change lives. Our school motto is “Think for yourself; act for others”; these are not empty words, but an essential foundation of how Cheney School operates. If you have a passion for mentoring young people, navigating difficult conversations with patience, and maintaining high expectations, we would love to hear from you.

Working collaboratively under our Cover Manager, the successful candidate will provide a safe, inclusive, and reflective learning environment for students. This position will work 3 days / 22 hours per week on Monday, Thursday and Friday, during term time, plus one INSET day in September. There may also be opportunities for additional work on Tuesday and Wednesdays on an ad-hoc basis.

What skills and experience are required

You will need to be good at talking to people, like children and want to work in a genuinely diverse community. This requires enthusiasm, compassion and patience, combined with the ability to say no with kindness.

We offer a positive and supportive workplace with an exceptionally supportive and open-minded staff body. Visitors always comment that people like each other at Cheney. We provide excellent opportunities for career progression, training and advancement; the range of Continuing Professional Development is second to none. OUR ‘HOW?’ is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff.
