Overview

Job Title: Cover Supervisor
Location: Colchester, Essex
Salary/Rate: 130 - 160 per day (depending on experience and school)
Contract Type: Temporary / Day-to-day / Possibility of permanent route
Start Date: ASAP / as soon as possible
Hours: Full-time or part-time; mainly term-time only in a secondary school setting

Responsibilities
  • Supervise whole classes during the absence of the regular teacher and ensure continuity of learning.

  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials, respond to student questions about processes or tasks.

  • Manage classroom behaviour, maintain a safe and productive learning environment.

  • Collect completed work, report on any behaviour or learning issues back to teachers/school.

  • When not covering lessons, support other school administrative or supervision tasks as directed.

Person Specification / Required Skills & Experience
  • A passion for working with young people and an ability to engage and motivate.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and confidence in leading a classroom.

  • Good communication and organisational skills; the ability to adapt to different classes and age groups.

  • Minimum educational requirements: often GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent). Degree level sometimes preferred.

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain) and relevant safer recruitment checks.
