Job description
Overview

Are you confident, adaptable, and passionate about supporting young people in reaching their potential? We’re looking for a proactive Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team at Brookthorpe Hall School – a nurturing, specialist environment where pupils with complex needs are supported to thrive both academically and personally.

Brookthorpe Hall School is a growing school catering for autistic pupils aged 7‑16. With almost 50 pupils, we aim to build incredible futures by empowering neurodiverse pupils to be happy and make their way in the world. We provide inclusive education within a safe, nurturing environment where each pupil’s Education, Health and Care plan is considered.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and young people. All applicants will be subject to social media checks and successful applicants will receive a fully enhanced DBS.

At Outcomes First Group, we believe in better work/life balance – and we’re putting wellbeing first. We are proud to be part of a 4‑Day Working Week (4DWW) trial, which allows you to work one day less each week (or equivalent hours) while still receiving your full‑time pay. You will work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time to do the things that make you happy.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver lessons and supervise classes in the absence of teachers, keeping pupils engaged and on task.
  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Provide guidance to students who need extra help or reassurance during cover sessions.
  • Prepare classrooms, learning materials, and resources for the day ahead.
  • Occasionally support the Teaching Assistant team or assist with wider school activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold the school’s values at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity and consistency across lessons.
  • Lead maths, language, or other subject sessions as required, and support small groups outdoors or in classroom settings.
  • Model patience, creativity, and care to strengthen pupil motivation and focus.
  • Maintain a calm and positive classroom atmosphere throughout the day.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working in an educational setting (essential).
  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Experience leading or supervising groups of students, including those with complex or additional needs.
  • Examples of supporting learning, maintaining engagement, or managing classroom behaviour.
  • Situations where you have worked independently or collaboratively to ensure positive outcomes for pupils.
  • A flexible, proactive attitude with excellent communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their best in a safe and supportive environment.
Skills & Attributes
  • Confidence in leading groups and managing classroom dynamics.
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, supporting students with complex or additional needs.
Benefits
  • Life Assurance.
  • Pension scheme with options to increase your contributions.
  • “Your Wellbeing Matters” – access to a wide range of first‑class mental health support services and physical health checks.
  • Health, wellbeing, and insurance benefits via the Vista Flexible Benefits Platform.
  • 100+ discount options valid in the UK and abroad.
  • Cycle to Work schemes.
  • Electric Car Purchase Scheme.
  • Critical illness cover.
  • Family Growth Support – inclusive benefits package covering enhanced maternity and paternity leave, along with paid fertility treatment support.
