Job summary

Kent County Council is seeking a Country Park Ranger to help manage multiple sites across East Kent, based at Brockhill Country Park. The role involves practical landscape work, hedges, trees, and grounds maintenance, with travel between parks as needed.

Applicants should have countryside management knowledge, a relevant qualification (HNC/HND or degree), and a valid UK driving licence. Training in chainsaw and other equipment may be provided.

Job description

Country Park Ranger

Role Responsibility

The post holders will assist in managing sites in East Kent Country Parks area. The successful applicant will be based at Brockhill Country Park but will assist the Head Ranger to manage five sites across East Kent. Brockhill, Pegwell Bay, White Horse Wood Country Park's and Grove Ferry and Parkwood Picnic sites

The successful applicant will be involved in many practical aspects of management, including grassland management, meadow management, coppicing, woodland management, tree and hedge planting and associated maintenance, fencing and access works. Sites are extremely varied in habitat and landscape. You should hold certificates of competency or be willing to train in chainsaw, pole saw, brush-cutting, tractor and 4X4 vehicle driving and some other practical skills as required.

You should demonstrate knowledge and experience in countryside management as a volunteer or paid worker, have a good understanding of landscape and nature conservation management, public access & interpretation, and be educated to HNC, HND or degree level in a relevant subject.

You will be reliable and possess good interpersonal skills and have a positive attitude towards customer care. A knowledge of the countryside is important. Your health should be appropriate to the needs of the role. An ability to travel in between sites at short notice and drive site vehicles is essential.

This role is subject to holding a full UK Driving Licence.
