Job description

Specialist Insurance Group
Location: London

Counterparty & Security Manager

Overview

This is a high-impact role at the centre of insurance governance, third-party oversight, and market-facing operational risk. The business works across complex insurance environments, delivering clarity, discipline, and commercial confidence in every counterparty relationship.

They now seek a senior professional who can bring structure, rigour, and authority to onboarding, due diligence, and TOBA governance—someone who can operate as the internal expert and elevate standards across the organisation.

The Role

As Counterparty & Security Manager, you will take full ownership of third-party onboarding and counterparty governance. You’ll serve as the trusted authority on TOBAs, due diligence, and Client Money requirements, ensuring the business maintains strong, compliant, and commercially aligned relationships.

This is a visible role requiring sharp judgement, confident communication, and a strong understanding of the insurance and Lloyd’s landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the onboarding lifecycle for insurers, intermediaries, introducers, and other counterparties.
  • Review, negotiate, and advise on TOBAs—balancing regulatory rigour with commercial awareness.
  • Execute and oversee robust due diligence checks: sanctions, PEP, credit, and financial stability assessments.
  • Drive strong compliance with Client Money rules and other regulatory obligations.
  • Maintain expert-level understanding of Lloyd’s processes and market governance.
  • Configure and maintain third-party data within broking or policy administration systems.
  • Act as the internal escalation point and SME for TOBAs, onboarding standards, and counterparty risk.
  • Shape and enhance onboarding policies, controls, and risk frameworks.
  • Train and support colleagues to ensure consistent standards across the business.
About You

You combine technical expertise with commercial pragmatism. You understand the risks, pressures, and expectations of a modern insurance environment—and you know how to guide stakeholders through them.

You will bring:
  • Strong experience in onboarding, due diligence, counterparty risk, or governance within insurance or broking.
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s market platforms (BAR, ATLAS, CRYSTAL).
  • Confidence reviewing and interpreting TOBAs.
  • Strong understanding of Client Money rules and regulatory expectations.
  • Hands‑on experience with broking or policy admin systems.
  • High attention to detail and an instinct for spotting risk early.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • A proactive, structured, and organised working style.
